Kathi Silva: Living Abroad with Special Needs

23/10/2021 @ 14:00 - 15:00

kathi silva

Kathi Silva was born and raised in the U.S. but has been accompanying her husband on diplomatic postings around the world for the past 18 years. Along with the usual planning and adjustments that are part of a nomadic lifestyle, Kathi has developed a wealth of experience in raising her special needs children in foreign lands. She learned how to research optimal opportunities and advocate for her children’s needs in each new country, and has been a spokesperson for creating a more supportive environment for special needs families of the US diplomatic community. Her wish is that more people recognize the immense opportunities for inclusion and acceptance around the world.

Kathi will talk about her personal observations in the context of supporting people with special needs while overseas and her book, Extraordinary Experiences: Tales of Special Needs Abroad.
